Wizards are a class within the Mage archetype. Sorcerers (wizards and warlocks) specialize in generating high damage during fights.

Basic Tactics

Wizards are damage dealers. With the mastering of the arcane arts, they use fire and ice to inflict massive amounts of damage over a short length of time.

In a group, the wizards will be some of the people bringing the enemy down hard, and fast. They are most effective (especially at higher levels) when other group mates are debuffing the target of its fire and/or ice resists, as they don't have the ability to do a lot themselves. A wizard's main concern, other than dealing damage, is usually to make sure that they do not pick up aggro, so the mob does not turn to attack them (as they won't last long, due to their lack of armor). A wizard does get a small ward, eventually, that dispels some hate and protects the wizard from a small amount of damage.

Wizards also have the ability to give small, but useful, buffs to the tank (or chosen target) that cast damage to the enemy. This class also has a less effective version of an Enchanter's mezzing that will stun one target for a period of time, although the wizard is also stunned during the duration of the mezz. They can also transfer their own health into power for themselves or others, but not in large amounts.

When soloing, a wizard's best bet is to root the target, then attack it from afar. Hand-to-hand combat is not something a wizard wants to engage in, as they do not excel in it, nor do they have much protection from being hit. Eventually, the wizard will get a group root, which will hold down and entire group of enemies at once. Note that roots can (and will) break and for tougher enemies, they will have to be reapplied. Roots have a duration, but also have a chance to break when the rooted target is damaged. Applying a DoT to a rooted target will thus increase the chance of the root breaking.
