In Everquest 2, you have a number of skills, which determine how well you perform the various actions in the game. You learn skills by performing the appropriate actions; in most cases, you can raise the skill to 5 times your current adventure or tradeskill level. Your current skill levels are shown in the Skills Window

Adventure

Adventure skills are used in melee combat and for casting spells. These are practiced while fighting in the world. They are classed as Combat (melee), Spellcasting, and Avoidance skills.

Combat Crushing how well you use hammers, maces, staves, and even your own fists.
Fists allows you to use your fists in combat.
Focus how well you maintain your concentration in battle; helps you cast spells while under attack.
Piercing how well you use daggers and spears.
Poisoning how well you apply and use poisons (rogues and predators).
Ranged how well you use bows and thrown weapons.
Slashing how well you use all types of edged swords and axes.
Spellcasting Disruption how well you cast damage dealing spells.
Ministration how well you cast healing and curative spells.
Ordination how well you cast spells that augment your friends or weaken your enemies.
Subjugation how well you cast spells that command pets and control others.
Avoidance Defense how well you avoid physical attacks.
Deflection an additional chance to avoid physical attacks (brawler)
Parry how well you ward off physical attacks with your weapons.

Tradeskill

In addition to harvesting skills, which everyone starts out with, anyone who begins a tradeskill career gets a whole array of skills. There is a skill for each of the nine final tradeskill classes and a set of four "artisan" skills used with the recipes used to make interim components for final recipes.

Harvesting Fishing how well you catch fish.
Foresting how well you find and harvest different kinds of lumber.
Gathering how well you gather herbs, flowers, and other small plants.
Mining how well you mine for ore and minerals.
Trapping how well you catch small game animals.
Artisan Binding how good you are with weaving recipes.
Geocraft how good you are with geomancy recipes.
Thaumatury how good you are with apothecary recipes.
Woodcraft how good you are with timbercraft recipes.
Craftsman Artistry how good you are with provisioner recipes.
Fletching how good you are with woodworker recipes.
Sculpting how good you are with carpenter recipes.
Outfitter Metal Shaping how good you are with armorer recipes.
Metalworking how good you are with weaponsmith recipes.
Tailoring how good you are with tailor recipes.
Scholar Artifacing how good you are with jeweler recipes.
Chemistry how good you are with alchemist recipes.
Scribing how good you are with sage recipes.


Utility

Utility skills are those other skills you use while out and about in the world.

General Disarm Trap how well you disarm the dangerous effects of a trap.
Safe Fall how well you reduce damage taken in a fall.
Swimming how well you swim in water.
Tracking how well you find monsters or creatures within an area.
Language a list of each language you have learned; you start with common and your racial language.
