Named
A MOB that has a proper name rather than a generic species name, eg “Bloodtalon” rather than “a Griffon”. Named MOBS are usually heroic or epic and can be expected to drop better than average loot.

NBG
Need Before Greed
A means of sharing loot where the player that can use the item (and needs it most) has priority over those who would simply sell the item or give it to an alt.

Nerf
A change to an aspect of the game that makes it weaker or worse, eg “Sony have nerfed Templars” or “They have hit Harclave with the nerf-bat again” The term probably comes from the trademark name of a set of rubber balls, which are soft and thus safe to play with; the implication being that once something is nerfed it is no longer dangerous.

Node
A generic term to describe the things in game that are targeted for harvesting. Each type of node produces one type of raw, apart from traps which produce meat and skins. The names and graphic representation of nodes change from zone to zone.

Node Stealing
Harvesting from a node which another play is harvesting from or is fighting over is called Node Stealing; it is not considered to be good manners.

NPC
Non-Player Character
A character who is not controlled by an actual player. The term is usually used to describe characters with whom the players will interact in ways other than combat, eg Merchants and Bankers rather than MOBS

Nuke
A spell that deals direct damage. A character with lots of good nukes, such as a wizard is sometimes referred to as a nuker.

OOC
Out of Character
Conversation in which the player is not attempting to speak as their character. For instance “What is the website address for the EQ2 daily podcast?” In EQ2 OOC chat is seen by all players in the zone. The shout command provides a way of communicating in character to all players. If you are in group or guild chat, you can indicate that the chat is OOC by enclosing it in two brackets, eg:((Hold a moment, Pizza has arrived))

PC
Player Character
A player character is an in-game character controlled by a player (as opposed to a character controlled by the game system).

PH
Placeholder
MOBS that need to be removed before a required creature will spawn.

Pickup
A pickup group is one in which the players have not previously grouped with each other. Pickup groups usually form in response to a character request for help in a particular task. Since the players are not familair with each other, the group may not function as well as one created from a set of guild members that group together regularly.

Pop
A synonym for spawn, as in "We camped in TS waiting for Bloodtalon to pop."

Proc
A proc is an enchantment on a weapon that gives it a chance to have a spell like effect when it hits it target.

Pull
This describes a technique by which a player brings a MOB to a group. Pulling is useful as it allows combat to occur in a location beneficial to the group, usually away from other MOBS.
