Description

Equipment

talk about armor and weapons

Conjurors have the same access to armor and equipment as all Mages. As with other Mages, your emphasis should be on intelligence and power.

If you tend to solo with your Air pet, you may want to pay more attention to mitigation and agility, since you are going to be getting more of the enemies attention than other mages.

Abilities

talk about using pets, types of spells, with links to the spell lines appendix

As a conjuror, you have access to a wide variety of spells. They are organized into a number of spell lines; in general, you will only be using the most current of each line.

Achievement Abilities

In addition to the conjuror specific spells, you have access to a number of spells from the Summoner Tree of the Achievement System. You may acquire these by earning achievement points and spending them on specific abilities.

Tactics

Solo Tactics

Earth Pet as Tank
The most straight forward way to solo is to use your earth pet as a tank to absorb damage and keep the enemies attention off of you. This works well in most circumstances. Place your damage shield on your pet give both you and your pet the fire proc (assuming you have enough concentration).
You can either go to the fight or bring the fight to you (see Pet Pulling). Once your pet has established sufficient hate, move in behind the enemy and begin pounding away with spells and turn on auto-attack. However, be conscious of the abilities of the enemy, if they have AoE attacks, you may want to forgo melee and only rush in to lay down the Seism line attack if needed and safe.
You as Tank
It is possible in some circumstances to play tank yourself and let your fire or air pet do the damage. In this case, you need the damage shield. You should keep the enemy's attention by producing as much damage as you can and try and keep the enemy between you and your pet so that your pet is not faced with parries and ripostes. Of course, this only works if your pet can burn down the opposition before they take large chunks out of your body.
Pet Pulling
A very effective way to locate the fight where you want it is to use your pet to pull the enemy to you. Find a nice safe area, preferably on where you can safely use your AoE spells and where wandering baddies won't arrive to spoil things. When ready, direct your pet to attack the enemy and then after the first hit, tell it to back off. As soon as your pet reaches you, tell it to attack again and begin the fight in earnest (don't forget to turn the protect master/self flags back on).
Target your Pet
In general, the easiest way to fight is to keep your pet targeted and let it make the selection of what to fight next. In a multi-enemy battle, the idea is to concentrate on killing the first enemy as fast as possible (3 enemy at 60% health do a lot more damage than 2 enemy at 100%).
If you add the line
target_allow_pet_self_toggle 0
to your eq2.ini file, /target_self and /target_pet no longer toggle; thus, the following macro will easily allow you to target your pet and let it attack:
/pet attack
/target_pet
This macro also makes it easy to direct your pet to attack something that is hitting you. Just target that enemy and use the macro again.
Enemy Selection
Given your wonderful array of encounter and point-blank area of effect (AoE) spells, large groups of weak enemies are ideal targets.

Group Tactics

The pet you use will depend on the construction of the group. If you are in a primarily caster-group with no dedicated fighter, you will need to use the Earth/Tank pet as the Main Tank. The healers should target the Earth pet and be prepared to heal it.

If your group has a dedicated tank, you can use the Air/Scout or Fire/Mage pet. Aggro management is a group effort. Be smart and support the tank.

Tank Pet
The Tank pet has high HP and defense, but low DPS. You can also give it a defensive buff to increase it's survivability. Using this in a group will lower your overall DPS and possibly pull aggro off the Main Tank. This is useful if the tank is weak and has a hard time keeping aggro. It is also useful when in a dangerous area with many possible adds. The Earth pet can take the new add and keep it busy until the Main Tank is ready for it.
Scout Pet
The Scout pet is good for DPS, average defense and HP, however it may out-DPS the tank's ability to Taunt, turning the mob onto your pet. If the healer is not casting group heals (which would include your pet) then your pet may drop quickly. If the pet dies, all aggro it had is transferred to you, making the mob come after you.
Careful use of pet buffs can tailor the aggro and DPS output of the pet. A defensive buff lowers DPS and increases defense. A offensive buff increases DPS but lowers defense. If the tank is having a hard time keeping Taunt aggro, you might have to drop the buff from the pet.
Mage Pet
The Mage pet has weak HP and defense, but high AE DPS, along with other smaller nukes. It is good when fighting groups of creatures, however be careful to employ the Mage pet before the tank has had sufficient time to generate hate for the entire group. When pet-attack with Mage pet, it will begin casting nukes from a distance. After a short time, it will close to melee (which it is not strong).
Mage pet works best when there is a strong tank. If the Mage pet pulls aggro, it will probably die quickly, being the weakest of all pets. If it has the offensive buff, it will have even less HP and defense.

Group DO's and DONT's

  • DO assist the tank to focus all DPS on a single target.
  • DO stand back from the main fight - don't clutter the center of the fight.
  • DO look around for wandering mobs and possible adds. Be ready to send your pet after the add.
  • DO wait several seconds before sending in your pet - this allows the Main Tank to build hate.
  • DON'T over nuke - you will pull aggro and die.
  • DON'T run off looking around the dungeon.
  • DON'T open a chest. Let the Scout disarm it.
  • DON'T run around if you are being attacked. Stand still and the Main Tank and Healer will soon come to your rescue.

Raid Tactics

Tricks and Tips

Versus Groups
Pulling a group of mobs can become difficult and deadly. Once you attack one mob, the rest will come after you. The Earth/Fighter pet has a Taunt that can keep all the mobs on it. However, the Air/Scout pet has only a single target attack, while the Mage pet has an encounter AE attack. There is a way to keep all mobs off you and alive, here's how:
  • Target the first mob and pet attack. Click the next mob in the group.
  • When the pet lands damage on target #1, pet attack target #2. Target mob #3.
  • When mob #2 faces the pet due to the DPS, pet attack mob #3.
  • Repeat this sequence until all mobs are facing the pet.
  • Now tap F1 twice to target the pet and assist it. Unleash with your nukes, pet heals, stuns, and stifles.
Expect to take some hits until the pet has aggro on all mobs. If a mob changes to attack you, pet attack it.
