Access Quest
A quest or a set of quests which are required to gain access to a particulr zone. All access quests for the major area zones are no longer required to access the zone, but they still exist and will provide alternative quest rewards. Most instance zones require an access quest (such as Obelisk of Lost Souls or Deathfist Citadel (DFC)) however; they usually only require one person in the group to have completed the access quest.
Adds
Additional Mobs
Refers to mobs that were originally involved in a combat, but have joined the fray. In a group it is considered good manners to warn other members about adds when first noticed; it is not considered good manners to take actions that cause adds.
Aggro
A character is said to have aggro if mobs involved in combat are directing their attacks at that character. Also called Hate.
Aggro is also used to describe those Mobs that will attack characters that come within range. Aggro Mobs are also called KoS mobs
Alt
An alt is one of a player’s other characters. Depending on context this may be a character other than the one they are currently playing, or a character other than their main.
e.g. “My main is a Templar, but I have a wizard alt.” or “Hold on, I’ll log out and get my Templar alt.”
AoE
Area of Effect
Refers to spells or combat arts that effect all MOBS in an Area rather than just those targeted. Note that use of AoE effects might cause additional MOBS to become aggro. Also can be referred to as AE.
AQ
Armour Quest
A set of quests suitable for players 20 and above whose reward is armour. There is a separate set of quests for each type of armour; light, medium, etc. Most of these quests include heroic steps.
Bot
A program that automates some aspect of the game; also a player who uses such a program. Use of bots is considered to cheating and against the EULA.
Buff
A spell or combat art that improves the stats of the target or targets.
Call
Call of Qeynos/Call of the Overload
The spell which allows citizens to return to their home city, as in “OK, I’m calling to Call now.” Also can be referred to as CoQ, CoO or CoF.
Camp
Camping is when a player or group wait in a location for a particular MOB to spawn. It is not considered to acceptable to camp the same MOB repeatedly as this denies other players access to that MOB.
Con
Consider
The act of checking the toughness of an encounter. The word is also used to describe the results in phrases such as “That zombie cons white to me”
CoF
Call of the Overlord
CoF is short for Call of Freeport, a common name for Call of the Overload that returns caster to Freeport
CoQ
Call of Qeynos
See call
Crowd Control
The act of keeping some mobs away from combat using mez and other techniques.
CU
Combat Update
A set of changes to combat, spells, and combat art designed by SoE to better balance the game; went live with LU13.
Debuff
A spell of combat art that reduces the stats of the target or targets.
Ding
Ding means to gain a level, as in “My Paladin dinged 30 last night.” The term presumably comes from a game other than EQ2, as the sound made in EQ2 on gaining a level is not a ding.
DoT
Damage over Time
A spell or combat art that deals damage on a recurring basis during the effects duration, as distinct from an effect that deals damage just once on resolution. Player DoT include Sorcerer spells like Blaze. Many animal type Mobs have DoT effects such as Maul
DPS
Damage Per Second
The amount of damage per second delivered by a character during combat. There are programs that can be run which give DPS numbers for characters in a group. Usually, though DPS is not quantified, but adjectives such as high or low are used to indicate whether a particular class deals large amounts of damage relative to another class. For instance Wizards have high DPS, Templars have low DPS.
Also can be referring to a class type which does high damage as in "Group looking for DPS" or "Need one more DPS". This typically includes: Scouts, Brawlers and Mages.
