EQ2-Daily.com Bookmarklet
Ok guys,
I mentioned on this week’s podcast that I was getting together a Bookmarklet that would allow EQ2 Daily readers to submit links in an easier fashion. Well I finished it up tonight. A lot of you may be wondering “What the hell is Cyan talking about when he is talking about a bookmarklet?”. Well let me explain.
A bookmarklet is a link that you drag to your links bar in your browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Opera, basically anything except Navigator 4.0 and under). When you are browsing the web and come across a good Everquest 2 page that you think is a good reference. Just smack the bookmarklet button on your links bar. A little window will pop up and the URL and Page Title should already be filled in for you. If you want to enter your character name in the third box we will post where the link came from on the news page. You don’t have to enter your character name if you don’t want to. It is up to you. Once you hit submit, the link gets sent to us and we will evaluate if we want to put it up on the site or not and if we post it we will give you credit as the finder. The only information passed to us is the URL, Title, and your character name if you filled it in.
So how do I add this Bookmarklet Cyan?
< -- Ok drag this link.
to your Link bar in your browser. Here is what the link bar looks like in Firefox (my browser of choice):

Just click on the above link and drag it to the Link Bar. It should create a new button.
Now once you are visiting a page that might be of interest to EQ2-Daily.com’s reader just click on the button and this little window will pop up:

The title and url should already be filled in. If you want to enter your character name for us to use, enter it in the third box (Originator). Then just hit ‘Enter’ or click the Submit button.
We have pretty good methods of finding current news and links on the net about EQ2, but we can’t find everything, especially the really great reference posts in some of the smaller forums. This might be a way for us to find some of those links that are more related to specific classes and news from class/guild specific websites that we just don’t have the resources to look at.
If you, as a reader, think the content is informative and current (and of course about EQ2), then feel free to submit it. We can’t guarantee we will use it, but odds are we probably will.
Thanks,
-Cyan
